Description
Alumahan, a rather common saltwater fish used in Filipino diets, is commonly called in English as “Indian mackerel”, or sometimes also as “striped mackerel” or “long-jawed mackerel”.
Scientific name is “Rastrelliger kanagurta”, family Scombridae.
The fish is also known as “Buyaw” in the Visayas and “Bunatan” by Ilocanos.
